What'sWot?: used to be that quiet kid in class that for some reason or other; everybody hated. then one day he had one too many knuckle-sandwitches and beat the crap out of his abusers. Luckily for him, it wasn't the cops that came across his anger-release, bu instead Kura. Kura saw potential in Yoki, and took him under wing. the two of them rose to power in the form of gang-fights.
Then Singa transferred in. she soothed Yoki's anger in a way that made him dislike the violent part of himself. this was a threat to Kura, who immidiately began trying to bully Yoki into returning to the gang. when Yoki wouldn't, Kura decided to take mesures into his own hands. Yoki walked in on him strangling Singa, and tried to stop him. the resulting fight killed singa, wounded and knocked out Yoki.
when he woke up, Yoki was close enough to Singa that the blood from their wounds had mingled, and Yoki was traumatized into thinking it was all her blood. scared and confused he ran. and ran. and ran. eventually he was hit by a car and knocked out again.
the next time he woke up, he was in Moko's apartment. given the option of going back to face his old, confusing, chaotic, and hurt life, or learning this new, confusing yet numb and hidden life.... he chose to shack up with the gay stripper ((though to be fair he dididn't know that at the time))

Moko Rein

What'sWot?: born on the streats, his mum died during childbirth and he was raised by his big brother, Sanjurou. at least for a few years. one day he heard a shot and upon investigation, found his brother dying from a bullet-wound in the chest. deeply distressed, Moko stayed by his brother through his last breaths and until quite a while afterward.
after a time he was found by Rasu, a stranger to Moko at the time, who took him in and gave him a home. here started his sheltered life. whereas Sanjurou had done his best for Moko, showing him everything his limited income could afford and teaching him all he knew (not a lot, but still). . . Rasu wasn't prepared to become a parent. nor was he very interested. because of this, Moko never learned basics such as how to read or use a telephone. he spent the rest of his childhood either closed in his apartment (Rasu gave him the place instead of one of his rooms) watching strangers on the streats go by, or down in the kitchen of the nightclub, where he was allowed to help.
eventually he learned to block out the death of his brother and only remember the good of his limited childhood. Rasu became a father-figure, despite his lack of effective parenting.
after years of blurred life, Moko was physically able to begin working at Rasu's nightclub. excited to get 'out' he worked for a few years as a waiter. from there he became a stripper, and finally joined Rasu's group of whores.
at first Moko had been exited to be interacting with people, but after interacting with so many 'normal' people, Moko began realising that being a whore was not normal life and secretly yearned for a taste of the outside world.

Rasu

What'sWot?: an immigrant, he moved to the city from a far away land, in hoped of making it as a bartender. he met Moko's big brother, Sanjurou, shortly after arriving. because of his busy schedule (full-time job and trying to secure property for a nightclub/bar isn't easy!), stress was the perfect excuse to hire Sanjurou often. over the years it took to become established in the city, Rasu fell in love with Sanjurou.
however, Sanjurou showed no signs of returning his feelings and only continued to get more and more depressed. finally one day, Sanjurou broke down after one of their weekly visits; admiting his plans of suicide and begging Rasu to take in his little brother. Rasu initially reffused, but in the end agreed to help Sanjurou stage the event in such a way that Moko wouldn't know it was suicide.
miserable with the knowledge of his lover's death, he kept his vow and a few days after the event, conviniently pretended to 'come across' Moko on the streats where he knew Sanjurou lived. since then he's taken care of Moko, eventually giving him a job at the nightclub/bar.

Kura

What'sWot?: Kura grew up with ambitions. he wanted to become somebody powerful when he grew up. ironically enough he saw his chance in Yoki. he convinced the boy into making a gang with him, and together they did indeed gain power. however, Yoki's heart wasn't in it and at the first bit of temptation, he left Kura for some passive chick.
quite understandibly, Kura was enraged, and attempted to cooerce Yoki away from Singa. as they begun loosing the power of having a gang, Kura felt trapped. despirately he decided that if he could kill Singa and make it look like somebody from a rival gang had done, Yoki's anger would feul him back into their gang.
Kura's plan backfired when Yoki walked in on the act. Kura was attacked by the angry Yoki. after killing both Singa and Yoki, Kura fled, knowing he would be arrested for his crime. he ran to the shadiest place he could think of: the whoring district. there, he hid out in an abandoned hotel and got a job waitoring at a nearby gay bar, figuring this would be the last place anybody would look for him.

Asuka

What'sWot?: Asuka owns a special interest clothing store in the whoring district. she's had a crush on Moko for quite some time, and often goes to watch him strip at Rasu's nightclub. she holds on to the idea that despite working at a gay bar, telling her he's gay, and never expressing any interest, that maybe maybe maybe he'll turn straight for her.
despite her annoying persistance and ignorance, her shop is quite popular for it's original fetish clothing and she often does customs. at Moko's request, she hired Yoki, which has given her store a boost.

Singa

What'sWot?: Singa transferred into a new school sophmore year. she became interested in her nextdoorneighbor, Yoki, after overhearing him singing in the shower. though she couldn't speek the language well, Singa mangaged to secure Yoki as her boyfriend and was quickly happy.
she was oblivious to the conflicts going on between Yoki and his best friend, and was attacked and murdered one night because of it.

Sanjurou
[deceased at 28 years old]

What'sWot?: born on the streat he grew up with his sickly mother. both of them worked as whore's to be able to feed themselves and were quite hard people. when his mother died and left him with a baby brother, Sanjurou realized just how important and fickle life was; deciding to try his best to take care of Moko the best he could.
as time passed, he became increasingly depressed at his state of life. disgusted with himself he turned to self-injury for comfort -- the only thing keeping him from suicide was the responsiblilty and love he held towards Moko. when Rasu pronounced his love to Sanjurou, he saw the perfect exit scheme.
Sanjurou stayed with Rasu for a while, to make sure the man was honestly attatched, and then told him his plans of suicide.
Sanjurou shot himself through the lung and poor lovestruck Rasu took the gun before Moko showed up. barely alive, Sanjurou was comforted in his hour of death by his baby brother, glad to be free and vaguely hoping that Rasu would keep his word.
